Personally, I find having character profiles pretty handy. I've used multiple formats over the years, some being very basic, others, rather detailed. Since I'm currently working on planning out a fantasy novel, I thought that I would share some of my planning methods. #1 is character profiles. Typically I start out by using a character creator once I have the basic idea for the character, so that I can better figure out how they look physically, and what their style is clothing-wise. Picrew is a great place to do this, but since it's a Japanese site (and all the text is Japanese unless you have Google translate it for you) I prefer to bookmark specific character makers. My Side of the Mountain was written by Jean Craighead George. It revolves around a middle school age boy named Sam, and his life after he runs away from the city to live in the Catskill Mountains in the state of New York. He lives in the wilderness all alone, surviving in the wilderness with only the animals to keep him company.

Many famous weapons have names. Mjölnir is the hammer of Thor, the sword in the stone's name was originally Caledfwlch, and Bilbo's short sword was dubbed Sting. Memorable weapons often have names. For example, Brisingr can be immediately identified by fans of the Inheritance cycle as Eragon's sword, and even has a book in the series named after itself.

Starting out you might be thinking "there can't possibly be that many types of dragons." Well I am here to disprove that statement and teach you some of what I have learned from my time spent doing research for fantasy projects. Yes, I have probably spent too much time on this, and yes, it was worth it. First we'll go over variants of dragons, and then we'll move on to dragon-related words, because there's a surprisingly large amount of those as well.
